David Matthews – Symphony No. 9, Variations for Strings, Double Concerto for Violin and Viola (2019)
“The disc closes with Matthews’s Double Concerto for violin, viola and strings, Op. 122, from 2013. The two soloists have a remarkably friendly rivalry in exchanges throughout the work, making it a delight in the hands of two such gifted musicians as Sara Trickey on violin and Sarah-Jane Bradley on viola. Maestro Woods and his string orchestra pretty much let them have full rein and do their best to just stay out of the way. Seriously, it’s a terrific effort and became my favourite piece on the disc” – Classical Candour
“Here is music of exquisite shades of tone-colour produced by superlatively good playing by Sara Trickey and Sarah-Jane Bradley” – Classical Source

“String soloists Trickey and Bradley show genuine rapport. Performances and sound quality are first rate” Limelight (Australia’s Classical Music and Arts Magazine)
Matthews and Fauré (2017)
“Matthews composed the piece for Sara Trickey, and there’s no reason why this performance shoudn’t be considered definitive. Trickey and Daniel Tong really have the measure of Matthew’s musical language, finding an improvisatory quality in the Aria of 1986 and bringing an understated wit to the Romanza (2012) – written to prove that contemporary music can still say something meaningful in waltz time. These are natural, unforced performances, recorded in a clear acoustic that nicely captures the gleam of Trickey’s sound. In a crowded field, their account of Fauré’s A major Sonata holds up well enough too; there’s a to-ing and fro-ing between the pair and an engaging intimacy in the way Trickey’s lines are buoyed up by Tong’s marginally more assertive playing. But you’ll buy this for the David Matthews, and you’ll be glad you did” – The Gramophone
Schubert (2014)
